Val di Sole Oasis
Val di Sole Oasis
Around the 1980s, clay excavation for brick production began, and the large pits filled with water, forming small lakes that attracted various species of animals. Today, the Val di Sole oasis has become an important protected area, the result of a successful environmental restoration, where one can observe the enchanting nature of the past. It serves as a resting and nesting area for over 200 species of resident and migratory birds, including some rather rare species such as the Ferruginous Duck, a shy and reserved diving duck that takes refuge among the dense vegetation. An observation tower, always accessible, allows visitors to admire one of the largest heronries in the Modenese lowland.
