Burana Canal

Burana Canal

The main waterway in the Lower Modenese Plain was built in the late 19th century to collect rainwater from the countryside and towns like San Possidonio during the fall and winter and to drain it into the Panaro River at Santa Bianca in the Ferrara area, supporting the Napoleon Canal. In the summer, it serves as a key water supply channel, transporting water from the Po River into much of the Buranese Plain using barriers and pumping stations.
