San Possidonio
Inhabited since Roman times, the Pieve di San Possidonio, built by Matilda of Tuscany, dates back to 1113. In the early 1300s, San Possidonio became part of the Pico family’s domain, before eventually falling under the feudal rule of Pietro Tacoli from Reggio, who is credited with the construction of the parish church. The crypt still recalls the original Matildic church. San Possidonio was the birthplace of Don Giuseppe Andreoli, a Carbonaro and martyr of the Risorgimento, and the area is also enriched by several 18th- and 19th-century villas, as well as various notable agricultural enterprises.
